  • Farms for Sale in Wyoming

Are you looking for peace and solitude on a rural property? If you are tired of crowds, you may want to check out Farms USA to find the perfect piece of land for sale in Wyoming.

Wyoming is the 10th largest state in the country but consistently has the lowest population. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, there are just under 6 people for every one of the state's 97,093 square miles. Only Alaska has a smaller population density.

Many American cities have much larger populations than the slightly more than half a million people that call Wyoming home. There are only a dozen towns in Wyoming with populations of over 10,000 people. The two largest by far are the capital, Cheyenne, located in the southeast corner and Casper in the center of the state. Their populations are slightly over 62,000 and just over 60,000, respectively. The next largest city is Laramie, home of the University of Wyoming, with a population of just over 32,000.

Wyoming straddles the High Plains to the east and the beautiful Rocky Mountains to the west. It's home to the nation's first National Monument, Devil's Tower, and its first National Park, the justifiably famous Yellowstone. Other mountain ranges include the Wind River Range and the Tetons. Tourism is major industry in the state because of its abundant natural beauty.

Gannett Peak in the Wind River Range has the highest elevation in the state at 13,804 feet. The lowest point is the Belle Fourche River at 3,099 feet. The mean elevation across the state is 6,700 feet. The elevation, frequent strong winds, and lack of precipitation are responsible for portions of Wyoming that are without arable land. Despite these conditions, cattle thrive in Wyoming and are the largest source of the state's agricultural receipts. The state boasts more than 11,000 farms spread across 30 million acres of farmland

Livestock is responsible for 86% of Wyoming's agricultural economy; beef cattle and calves account for 78% of the state's total. Rounding out the top five are hay, sugar beets, hogs, sheep and lambs. Wyoming is a leader in the production of sheep and wool. Other important products are milk, honey, and eggs, although they are a much smaller segment of the total. The top five field crops are hay, sugar beets, barley, dry beans, and wheat. Other crops include corn (for grain), oats, and sunflowers.

Mining is a major industry in WY, comprising a larger proportion of the gross income than in any other state. Wyoming produces more coal than any other state and is also a major producer of petroleum, natural gas, trona, bentonite, and other clays.

Land for sale in Wyoming ranges from oversized city lots to vast ranches sprawling across hundreds of thousands of acres. Hunting, fishing, and recreational properties abound. Use Farms USA's handy search tool to find farm land for sale and narrow the parameters of your search by price, location or type of property. Whether you're ready to join Wyoming's other cowboys in raising beef on a cattle ranch or you're looking for mountain seclusion, we can help you find it. Either choice will find you living amidst abundant wildlife rather than crowds of people when you choose Wyoming.
