There are also locations throughout this estate that you can view the lake in the winter months.

History

This property includes 68 acres of the Counts Farm that was homesteaded by Mertie Florella and James Wilson Counts in 1899. The family continued to own and live on the property until 2015. An additional 20 acres of timber overlooking the lake is located on the southern edge of the Counts property. The acreage also includes the historic Colemans Dell site where (per local legend) gold rush prospectors were ambushed when passing through in 1854. The creek that flows through the Colemans Dell site includes large, unusual rock formations of a type not found elsewhere in this area. Baker University used the Colemans Dell site for picnics and other events in the early 1900s. This farm is also the site of Thomas Lyon Russells Margarets High Pasture oil painting (also known as Baldwin Woods.) The Baldwin City area has a plethora of historical sites and events.
