Alabama, one of the south's primary states, contains thousands of acres of farmland and timber country available for sale. The weather in this state is humid and subtropical with annual high temperatures in the mid-70s and lows in the mid- to low-50s. It rains here every month of the year, with an annual average of about 53 inches.
Alabama is a low-lying state with much of it 500-feet below sea level, and its highest point at 2,400-feet. The state's topography is diverse consisting of the Gulf Coastal Plain, Piedmont Plateau, Ridge and Valley section, and Appalachian (or Cumberland) Plateau. A small bottom niche of the state sees the Gulf of Mexico. Neighboring states include Mississippi, Georgia, and Tennessee.
There is a diverse farm community in Alabama with an average farm size of around 200 acres, although 2,000-acre farms for sale in Alabama are not unusual. It was once known as the cotton state, but agriculture has since diversified to include a rotation of planting crops of soybeans, corn, and peanuts. Wheat, rye, clover, and vetch are also grown on the land, as are pecans and peaches. Cattle, poultry for broilers and egg production are also an important part of the agricultural landscape.
The economy of Alabama is dependent upon the automotive and manufacturing industries as well as agriculture, the aerospace industry and its natural resources of timber, coal, iron ore, and limestone which are required to make steel. Actually, about 70% of this "Heart of Dixie" state is covered in forests.
The capital of AL is Montgomery although the largest city is Birmingham with a population of more than 210,000. Birmingham was once nicknamed "The Magic City," where steel and pipe-related businesses such as American Cast Iron Pipe Company and U.S. Steel-Fairfield Works remain primary employers. Walmart, however, is the largest employer in the state.
